mkv2avi

!!!ATTENTION!!!

BEFORE using mkv2avi

Download RealPlayer10GOLD.dmg from http://www.real.com (free version).

Install RealPlayer into "/Applications".

What is this?

mkv2avi is an utility which allows to pass from Real Video 9 or 10 and any mplayer supported audio (ACC, Vorbis, mp3 ...) codified files  into a matroska .mkv file to xvid video and mp3 audio .avi files.

How does it work?

-Drag a .mkv file or some .mkv files onto application icon.

-Insert the video bitrate (the bitrate value in kbit/s must be between 4 and 16000). The inserted value will be distant from the final value. i.e. inserting 3000 we could get a final bitrate of 940 kB/s or 1560 kB/s according to the film quality.

-Consult the terminal to get information about the process.

During the first activation?

-During the first activation the application controls RealVideo codec position on your hard disk and the necessary libraries.

-Codecs:

If not found they'll be copied automatically:

                        atrc.bundle

                        cook.bundle

                        drv2.bundle

                        drvc.bundle

                        sipr.bundle

                  from

                        RealPlayer.app/Contents/Frameworks/HXClientKit.framework/HelixPlugins/Codecs

                  to

                        /Library/Application Support/ffmpegX/reallib

                  and installed

                        ~/.mplayer/codecs.conf

-Libreries:

If not found they'll be installed automatically:

                     /usr/local/lib/libfaad.0.dylib

                     /usr/local/lib/libintl.3.dylib

                     /usr/local/lib/libpng.3.dylib

Why doesn't work?

-You're not using Mac OS X.

-The file you drag could be not a .mkv file.

-The file name could contain some special characters such as parenthesis. Try rename it to "foobar.mkv".

Why that final bitrate (see ~/deflog.log)?

-It's mencoder fault, I can't do anything.

-If you know how, you can change the shell script mkv2avi.app/Contents/Resources/mkv2avi
